Welcome to 7C Math! In math this week, students will take a Fall Screener on Monday, 9/10. This assessment will NOT be counted towards the child's grade. The goal of this screener is to provide me with data to see where my students are mathematically so that I can plan lessons accordingly. We will then begin our first unit “Accentuate the Negative”. This unit encompasses the following concepts: *to extend the number system to include the rational numbers (positive and negative integers, fractions, and decimals) *to locate and compare the values of rational numbers using a number line *to develop and use algorithms for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers *to solve problems involving rational numbers In Investigation 1, students review rational numbers and use a number line to show size relationships. We also use red chips to represent negative quantities and black chips to represent positive quantities to model given situations. Homework this week in math will be given Monday – Thursday. There will be a quiz on Investigation 1 on Monday, September 17th. All students should have a math binder by now with four different sections – 1. “DO NOW”, 2. Classwork/Vocab./ Notes, 3. Homework, and 4. SLM/Assessments. Please get the following supplies for math: One 1 1/2 or 2-inch binder 3-hole punched white filler paper One pack of Sheet Protectors -- 20 count One pack of 5 tab dividers Pencils -- NO PENS! Remember to keep your binder organized and all papers in the correct sections throughout the school year. The biggest key to success is organization! |
